McG Says He’s Directing T5 and T6

McG says he’s directing “Terminator 5″ and “6″. Or at least, he says he is. IGN reports: During the live commentary for the movie over the weekend (that was available to those how had bought the film on Blu-ray) he said that - no matter which studio inherits the series...

McG Answers Fans Questions about Terminator Salvation

“Terminator Salvation” director McG sat down with MTV and answered some fan questions in regards to the movie. The interview is in two parts, and you can read the full question and answer sessions here and here. Below are some of the highlights from the Q&A. (Note: It goes without saying that if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you should stay clear of the below. SPOILERS.)

Q: In the earlier movies, Skynet is not aware of Kyle Reese. So, why are they aware of him now?

It’s a function of their recon during the dark period, and a function of their awareness of the events that had happened since Kyle Reese traveled back. By virtue of John Connor being alive, that means Kyle Reese did meet Sarah Connor and impregnate her. That data exists, and was brought into the fold at Skynet.

Q: At the end of the film, is John Connor ever made aware that Marcus was an infiltration unit? Or does the secret die with him?

McG: That’s an interesting question. But I think it’s of very little consequence. What Connor is focused on [at the end of the movie] is that Marcus did come through for him and Kyle Reese. It wasn’t clear, when he gave his word at the riverside, whether that was an example of Skynet using the best of ourselves against us…his action transcends the question, if you follow me.

Q: If Kyle Reese had been killed in “Salvation,” what would’ve happened to John Connor? Would he simply cease to exist?

McG: Will he be erased in the photograph, like in “Back to the Future”? That’s an excellent question that theorists have been bandying about for the ages. We play it more simply. Kyle Reese must be kept alive, so he can be sent back in time from 2029 to protect Sarah Connor, impregnate her and she’ll give birth to John Connor who will save us all. And the simplest way to understand that is to protect the triangle of Kyle, John and Sarah. Any deconstruction of that leads to more headache than satisfaction.

Q: If there are sequels, will you follow what was said in “T3″ in regards to John Connor being killed by a T-850?

McG: Likely, yes. There’s a lot of value in the mythology put forward in “T3.” Listen, I respect [director Jonathan] Mostow and everything — it’s hard to make three good movies. Look at “Godfather 3.” It’s trash.

And how did Marcus ended up on Death Row? Apparently he killed some cops (and his own brother) during a carjacking gone wrong.

I can’t post anymore, looks like I’m prohibited now, ok…

I’d really hope they bring back marcus wright. I mean he was resurrected by skynet, I’m sure the resistance can find an artificial heart somewhere. I mean have they honestly considered kidnapping one of the scientists skynet had working for it? If you recall there were human figures up in the human depot?

I think Marcus Wright could wind up actually being pivotal. I’m not sure why people hate him. If you consider it, you have John Connor who is the brains of the operation and Wright who is the muscle. All it says is John Connor leads the resistance but he’s not going to go off fighting skynet single handedly.

Furthermore, kidnapping the skynet scientists could be instrumental in not only bringing Marcus Wright back or replacing his heart with an artificial one, but also resurrecting John Connor if he is killed. The way the story in Salvation seems to pan out is that it was the skynet scientists who brought him back. Not skynet itself, hence skynet’s declaration that “we had to think radically” rather than “I.”

There’s room for this. If it were me, I’d bring Wright back in the second film for a cameo to acknowledge he’s still alive using a machine heart/ artificial heart rather than the organic one which connor needed. He’s also perfectly capable of tangling with the t-800s which we’ve seen which would be instrumental in Connnor’s ability to capture them.

It’d be easy to see Connor cutting Wright loose and employing him as a direct counter to the terminators and even capturing not only the terminators but other skynet machinery.

A lot of people like to criticize things like that but to be honest, despite being fun movies, we’re actually told very LITTLE about what went on in the future. There’s a lot of room. I can very plausibly see Marcus Wright working to capture terminators and even leading his own team of them. It’d make for a good cameo appearance in the second film, then bring him back fully in the third film as an instrumental part of Connor’s final assault on skynet.

Terminator 3 establishes that connor IS killed, however using the skynet medical technology and captured skynet scientists, he can be brought back. I’m sure it wouldn’t be difficult to aquire other t-750(Marcus Wright) endoskeletons and the medical/organic material needed to get his brain functioning again. Despite being on death row, how precisely was Marcus Wright’s brain preserved for the years as he was built up?

There is plenty of room to play around with stuff like this.

I would rather McG follow TSCC than T3 in the sequels. I would much rather see the Cameron terminator than a T-850 kill Connor.

The “female terminator” concept is just much more intriguing.

YES! i completely agree…the stories pulled together by TSCC made me 100% heartfelt to the entire terminator series more than was just pulled on by the movies. I am extremely upset by the cancellation of the show. Season 3 would only be 100x better than the previous, which were amazing!

I AM confused as to where Marcus Wright stands..I was made to think he had something to do with the Arnold model from the 1st movies, as in HE WAS Arnold..but the cameo facial appearance of Arnold at the end just thoroughly confused me in that regards.

“I would rather McG follow TSCC than T3 in the sequels. I would much rather see the Cameron terminator than a T-850 kill Connor.”

Pnutans, as much as I like the series, there is too much unexplained for them to continue on from the series. I think keeping the Post-T2 movies and series separate is a good idea.

OK Jedi, I’ve had enough of you. Do you realize that you have posted 7 (SEVEN) (SIETE) (SEPT) (NANA) (HEPTA) comments in a row??? I put this in different languages so you can understand it, since obviously you can’t speak english. We are tired of your rants, of your 12-year old “booo hoooo I hate McG, I hate his movie, he doesn’t exist for me”. We are tired of you. I saw the movie and I F+++ing loved it. So I don’t need to read 7 freakin comments from you bashing the movie over and over. I’m tired of you. SOOOO. Here’s what I’m gonna do. For every one of your comments that you post saying the same thing AGAIN, I’m gonna post 5 different comments stating MY opinion, see if you like that. You didn’t like the movie. We got it. Stop it. The rest of us have an opinion and has the same (if not more) value than yours. You look like a 12 year old, really. And what the hell was that about “ooooh you are not real fans like me, I have a McFarlane action figure, I have an endo skull, yadda yadda yadda”. Do you think having merchandise makes you a real fan??? Or sitting down in front of a TV, comic or book and enjoying the story? What do you guys think. Personally I don’t have any action figures… But every time I see those red eyes my spine crawls.
So, long story short, JV, i’ve had enough of your c+++pp, shut the f+++ up or I’ll bash your head in the concrete.
Come on guys, let’s f+++ this f+++er.

Well, if this is the way how he´ll understand that we do have our opinions about T:salvation and we are just tired of his comments (about the same thing) then i say, JVSTFU!!! go for it . I´m just curious when he´ll strike back and tell us how pathetic we are and that we are not true fans…again )) Personally i think that jedi is not a terminator fan, he´s just a fan of first Terminator movie that´s obvious.

we should just ban the fool from thr site

Looks like we made it guys! Either he has been banned from the site or he just gave up. Anyway, it’s been a really long fight but we won!

lol, that´s right, one fanatic down

I must say I am dissapointed in the direction they chose with this movie. In T1 they went with the theme that the future is set. In T2 and T3 they went with the theme that the future is not set. Now they are going back the the theme that the future is set, hence McG saying that Reese must go back in the year 2029.

The very notion of him going back from this point in time makes no sense at all. The Kyle Reese in T1 and the T-800 in T2 came from a future where J-day happened in 1997. But in T2 they changed it. In this storyline J-day happens in 2004. If this Reese goes back he wont be the same Reese. So what now, do we write a new script for T1 and T2 again? Where does it end?

I feel there are 2 directions they could have gone in: either show us the future that the Reese and T-800(Arnold) we saw in T1 and T2 came from, or show us a new and exciting future. One where we have no idea what to expect. They tried to stay in the middle, and wound up giving us neither. All we got is a storyline that doesn’t come together.

Sorry I prefer the storyline of the chronicles hands down. At least that one made sense (for the most part).

Good eye Dsparil; I thought I was the only one who caught those four human figures above the “human pens”; after reading the CHUD article they kinda make sense, but in the final edit I don’t get it. Here’s another thing that made no sense, why was Kate Conner preggers-it’s visably obvious but no one even makes mention of it so whats the point?

BTW, why does everyone hate on jedi? he’s been a valuable member of this site; his english is far from perfect and he has different opinions than you; so what? Did i miss him give some type of racial hate speach or something? Just don’t get it…

Hmm, banning Jedi because he doesnt swallow everything they try to shove down our troats…

no one said that we or someone hate him. I was irritated by his opinions such as “I´m the only true terminator fan here around” and stuff like this. But it was also funny to see other people pissed by him ))

And for me it wasn´t, definetely not, about his english. but guys it was just btw, this is not a Why someone did hate or kick out jedi thread, or am i wrong??

T3 is trash. If John Connor is terminated by a T-850 (which is an amazingly imbecilic idea and an insult to Connor’s intelligence concerning the nature of the infiltraition units) then I shall disregard all the movies past the second one.

“Listen, I respect [director Jonathan] Mostow and everything — it’s hard to make three good movies. Look at “Godfather 3.” It’s trash.”

Amusingly, it seems even more difficult to make a fourth movie (I thought Godfather 3 was a better movie than Salvation was!). Reviews of Salvation pretty much paint this as the end of the Terminator Franchise. With the death of the excellent TSCC, fox has put the last nails in the coffin.
