McG Pretty Much Confirms the Original Terminator Salvation Ending We Heard About and Feared (SPOILERS)

Remember that crazy, can’t possibly be real because it was just too crazy and what were they effin’ thinking ending we heard about what seems like ages ago, but McG and others have come out to decry, but now seems like they’re kinda saying Yes, it was true after all? Remember that ending? The spoiler-filled one here? Well guess what. It’s all true. Most of it, anyway.
In an interview with i09, McG basically confirms the ending, though seems to say his idea for the ending was MUCH darker than the one we heard about. Says McG:
That was at a time when there was a very dark ending. There was a great irony in the way this film shook down. There was this leak that Connor dies and they put Connor’s face on top of the machine body of Marcus. Everybody went, “Booooooo, what’s that?” That’s half of it [the ending]. We had a jet-black ending. Connor dies, we’re in a room with all the people we care about. You take Connor’s likeness, you put it on the living machine of Marcus. He sits up, now looking like Christian Bale, takes a gun, kills Kate, kills Kyle, kills Star, kills everybody, eyes flare red, [snaps] the end.
Are you kidding me? There was a time when that ending was actually viable? Jesus Christ.
Then one of the movie’s writers, Michael Ferris, dropped this tidbit about another version of the ending they were considering, which is exactly the one we told you about in that spoiler-filled post:
There was an ending of intermediate darkness, in which … the mechanical Marcus takes over as Connor and goes on to lead the resistance. It’s essentially a secret to everybody, except the inner circle, that John Connor is now a robot, is now a Terminator. We’re going for some irony there.
Apparently the ending that McG talked about, with a now robot John Connor shooting everyone dead, was actually shot, but it’s not going to be used. McG is saying he may or may not put it on the DVD.
We should have known hiring the guy who did the “Charlie’s Angels” movie was going to lead to something like this. For someone who keeps confessing how much he loves the franchise, McG and company sure seemed to have gone out of their way to purposely try to destroy everything that’s come before it in the service of offering up a gimmick twist. Thank God that stupid ending leaked onto the net and forced them to change it. Can you imagine, Marcus as John Connor, a machine now leading the resistance? Yes, McG, it would have been delicious irony, but it would also have been effin’ retarded.

It still doesn’t look like they used it. He keeps talking about the endings in past tense. I think we can all relax and the name of the post should be changed.
I dunno, I was kind of cool with the ending the way you spoiled it the first time cuz it seemed like they were staying true to the story that was revealed in T:3 (even if alot of fans didn’t like T:3 or consider it viable), as long as he is killed by a T-800 anyway. But the idea of the darker ending? Where the heck were they gonna go with that? The ONLY thing I could see with that kind of ending is if they were planning having some sort of, I dunno, way of stopping that ending in the following movies by time travel. Otherwise it almost seems as if they were delibertly trying to piss off the fans. I’ve personally been DYING to see this movie since I heard about it and if they go off the deep end with it I will be very angry and dissapointed.

I believe this article , and mcg confirms that those two alternate endings were considered . I really dont know how it would have worked if john connor died , really how would they transform him into a terminator , just simply rip off his skin ? and marcus obviously covered himself in connors skin * sarcasm * or with the aid of skynet ahem or better yet another resistance fighter … what crap > If connor would look messed up and munted i could accept it but not a perfect clone ala face off . Yeh lets switch faces !, these alternate endings dont even make any sense . Then connor as a terminator would have finished off skynet in the sixth and last film , and then what … ?
Well Ive read the novel and …Spoiler….not of that happens..however there is a big musical number at the end with terminators doing the can can… its great!
well, they gotta have SOMETHING thats worth making two more movies about, so they better have a damn good ending.
Sorry people, with this mental desease guy, Mr. McG is impossible to be optimist, but I like the end Andyk told, much more inteligent, I can already see all terminators with red dresses and doing the Can Can, much more original and based on the original Material.
Only one thing, is fear that other trilogy finale we just give-up for the machines, just like Matrix, nonsense and complete stupid, they done it already and it was a failed, McG is so stupid that he even missed the conclusion of Matrix, poor sad Moongol.

To be utterly completely honest I don’t give a crap about endings really>>an over all great movie>the ending will obviously be a decider although
I dunno. I mean it’s GREAT that we don’t have to deal with those endings, but the fact that he’s was even REMOTELY considering those as viable endings has me worried. I’ve stayed away from ALL spoilers so far, because I want to go into the movie with a fresh perspective, but I really don’t know what to say.
If he used the Marcus as John kills everyone ending, or even the Marcus as John ending, I think I might have started a full-blown riot immediately after.
This ending sounded bad. Don’t create more paradox than you have to (killing Kyle Reese means there would be no John Connor, which means Marcus would not put on his face, which means he would not kill Kyle Reese, etc).
Hearing this makes me believe the BS story rumored for T5 that you posted a few days ago. McG needs to learn that there are boundaries. This is supposed to be about John Connor leading the resistance to victory. Not about cyborg John Connor. Not about Skynet sending HKs and Harvesters into the past (which should be impossible under established Terminator rules).
McG, you can be creative, as there hasn’t been a whole lot of future detail provided. But stay within the boundaries! Tell the story of John Connor leading the resistance to victory! Don’t completely change the story we have been waiting for since 1984!

everyone who has seen terminator has always wanted to see the movie set in the future. mainly because you can only send a terminator back in time n fail so many times, befor it turns crap.
then we hear the news of salvation n everyone gets excited. finally we get to see the war. but then he goes n changes it creating a complete different paradox to what we are used to seeing in all 3 movies and T.V. show. its cool that he has added some extra machines, that info has always been sketchy in the flash forwards. but changing it to the point where connor is a terminator hmmm tooooooo far. apart form that the movie looks really good cant wait to see it, just hope the ending is just as good.
Guys I think, these supposed leaked endings are being used by the movie makers as marketing tools. I mean we all are more curious now than we were before !! I’m sure the ending won’t suck, the movie has been seen by Arnold and he approved it (Read it somewhere), also McG was in regular touch with James Camerone for advise.
Arnold also approved the California Budget. That doesn’t make it good.
Do not forget to put a verry good introducing in film…..like in T1 or T2…
Well no matter, you would think they would stay in the boundaries to keep the fans even if they were going for a new/broader fan base. But who knows… guess we will find out in a couple weeks….

Anyway, if the movie happens 11 years before Kyle Reese is sent back in time, there is no way they can kill him or John for that matter… in reality they would be completely ignoring the first movies if they caused any event that could possibly keep those events from happining… it just wouldn’t be logical to step out of the boundaries that you are talking about.
…but then again, Charlies Angels wasn’t logical, so I guess we could be screwed. Oh well, week and a half to find out the truth.
Oh, and I forgot to say: for those who are worried about the plasma guns… if it is eleven years before Kyle is sent back, thats plenty of time for the plasma gun to be invented if you ask me. So, if this guy McG actually does a few things right (just pray, thats all we can do, lol), this and the next two movies could be really awesome.

I agree I think this ending was purely a marketing tool and was never considered as the ending. Because if you kill John its game over no one would watch T5 or T6. Everything I have seen of this movie makes me think it could be fantastic but I have no faith in McG as a moviemaker.
The poster who said its about John Conner’s journey to defeating Skynet and winning the war. TBH I think things have changed too much in the timeline to say that The Resistance wins the war.
If time travel actually existed , scientists say that as soon as you would step back through time that you’d be in a different time line ,so theoretically would not alter any future whatsoever . So who knows maybe skynet won’t lose after all . Also has anyone thought about this scenario , if skynet lost the war how could they have brought anything back through time if they were defeated , unless they were on the brink of defeat and took a plan B approach to cut it’s losses before it was too late in which case they were still not technically defeated .
Jedi, suck up that negativity and go watch the movie before you assume things. McG may have been a bad director before, but everyone can change, and frankly when he took the script to Jonathan Nolan to rewrite it showed a big potential of change for McG. Now, with that said, he still couldve screwed it up, but hey, I for one am going to keep a positive attitude until I see the movie for myself. Oh, and plazma gun technology would be one heck of a leap for any reality, even for an artificial intelligence, so give it a break… also on the plazma gun note: No, it would not make the budget cheaper to have real guns like they do… do you have any idea how much guns are these days? How many blanks they would go through? Having them carry around fake toy guns pretending to shoot and putting all the gun firing in with special effects would be way cheaper, trust me on this.

For the record everything ive heard about this film so far sounds awesome and i’ve no reason to think it wont be great. I cant wait to see it.
Antonio there have been plenty of time travel discussions on other threads so dont know why no one wants to talk about it. It does seem that going forward as seen in TSCC final episode creates a alternative time line but going back does only sometimes.
Also several people can go forward but only one can come back, something which 1russter pointed out.
Going back seems more difficult due to possible power limitations?
Skynet even in its early form seems to have access to the latest T888 sent back by future Skynet so it may be impossible to really defeat it as it will allways exist in one form. There does not seem to be any fixed rules to the terminator universe.
So if there are no rules then the terminator series will never end … ?? it would become a continual time loop , though if skynet sends a terminator back through time then what does the actual skynet that exists in the future do while it keeps on sending back terminators , it still has the resistance to deal with in the present/future time line . Unless there are multiple wars panning out over various time contingents , then who is to say which time line would supersede as the actual time line that would lead either of the two waring factions to victory ? Sounds very confusing but if you read my post carefully it should make sense , conversely i also don’t see a definitive answer to all my questions either as time travel does not (yet) exist thus it is all currently speculation . Though it would be interesting to see what other fans make of this time travel time line .
I dont think you will ever get a definitive answer as the writers change the rules as they go along. If you only use the one time line Sky net is defeated eventually and can send no more terminators back unless it leaves sleepers behind in the past to start over.
With multiple time lines all bets are off, this is seen in TSCC with subtle changes only in the past (Derek’s memories) but going forward John is no longer in charge. Perhaps if Skynet is defeated in one time line another terminator sent back from an alternative time line they cross paths and then it starts again. Just makes your brain hurt.
does that then mean that we’ll be watching new terminator movies/spin offs till the end of our days … ? i wouldn’t mind …
Regarding the plasma rifles…
In “From the Ashes”, which is the official prequel novel for Terminator Salvation, Blair heard a rumor that the HKs were getting ready to replace their gatling guns with some new form of plasma cannon.
Clearly, plasma weapons are about to be developed, though it would be some time before smaller versions are created, and even longer before the resistance gets their hands on them.
Well, so me and Antonio are boring for you, only because we express our thoughts, that’s ok. but talking about originality, think about Back to the Future II, think T3 with this idea, TX (The Terminatrix) send back to the past to prevent Swarzie T-800 of ptrotect the little John and not leaving the T-1.000 be destroyed, The Tx should show the happenings of other point of view, preventing and protecting the Cyberdyne Bulding destruction from Sarah and her friends.
Thunk about it, T3 it will be so great on this point of view, The TX on 1997, but now, the producers even conseidered that, ok.
Now comes this McG, everyone is hoping that will be a great movie, but I’m already figured out, it’s gonna be a failure, there is no inteligence on it, only Ticket sale, (Guaranteed, because is based on Terminator, a legend) asale of lot of products, toys, everything we are so used, just to remember how Terminator were good, Oh my, they should only sale new toys, Now McG cuted 30 minutes more of his horrible movie, Great, considering the sale of the DVD, well, T think he needs a few bucks more, Jesus Christ, I’m not pessimistr I’m Realist, Sorry.

Spoiler alert, don’t read if doesn’t want to know the nonsense… Warned… Antonio, my man, I’ve watched some sceanes that Warner put on NET, one is about a attempt of Rape (Horrible and pointless) the other is one with Kyle Reese and a little girl trapping a T-600 Terminator upside down by a simple movie trap with rope, I really was shocked, so stupid, you can’t believe (The visuals of the terminator were cool obvious). It’s tragic, now comes the worse thing for me, the Terminator sees all in full collor, with some scripts in red, where is the Infro-Red vision? McG even, but he even considers keeps the eye sight of the original Terminator? And people here is talking about it’ in the past, and they don’t have technology? Húummm, in a other terrible sceane, the Connor’s fionce, and a resistence fighter saved by MArcus Wright are discuting about the good intentions of MArcus, lack of time for what interest, well is McG, not Cameron. Some generals apperas, very nice, makes sense, but in others, like one with the sub-aquatic snake like Terminator? What is the point, and a specific one where some Terminator attacks John and Reese, horrible also, remeber the T2 Teaser? Dear Greek God, let me say one thing, you have all the right to watch the movie, I’m with you, I’m a little anxious too, but if you watched it and confirm my thoughts, please, stop to support it ok, starts to claim for good movies, and not accept anything from unprofessionals directors, learn once and for all, the producers can’t robbery Cameron’s ideas as they are doing, and putting in a poor package (like Junkie Food) specailly that Terminator in a certain point of view were an independent movie, again they should pay whetever James Cameron wants to make another Terminator movie, instead of uses a guy like McG to keeps the flame on.
Again, if the movie is bad, tell me, watch it with really critic eyes and demand quality, you know what I mean? Though the thing is if we don’t support the movie perhaps it will affect our chances of obtaining a season 3 of TSCC , i’m not 100% sure though i think big movie sales may help re-fuel the money hungry fox network to take another stab at it . Though honestly i doubt i will bother going to see terminator salvation in the theaters anyway , i’d rather wait until it comes out on dvd and re-watch T2 then salvation all in the one night . Plus on the special edition of the dvd we may get to see the multiple endings that were supposedly shot + all the other deleted footage , which should add another 30 minutes or so to movie which will be a nice added feature .
You know, I’ve watched all Terminators movies at theaters, even T3, that I got really sad, I hate T3, but I’ve watched, in a sense I helped Shwarzie ellection, now, even shwarzie isn’t evolved, well I have to be honest, depending of what Athena and the other posts tell me on review, I’m really considering for the first time not to watch Salvation at theaters, I’m only go if the true fans tells me that the Movie is magic, but again, the footage that I’m seeing is telling me the movie will suck, so I’m not getting to convinced. But if the reviews out, really, but really tells me that it worth, I’m in. Or I’m gona wait the DVD also. And keeps watching my DVD collection, T1 and T2.
I hated T3. Absolutely hated it. So if Salvation is terrible, there’s no doubt McG is going to hear about it. But I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen so far. Guess we’ll just have to wait until May 21 to find out, huh? If you’re not going to go see it I’ll let you know what I thought of it.

Actually Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a game based on 21st century warfare… the previous ones (5 specifically) were alright, old guns are kinda fun, but overall, since I’m such a big fan of modern-day and futuristic stuff, Modern Warfare 2 is gonna rock… I play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare all the time, just waiting on the new one.
The new Terminator Salvation game: looks to be a third person game like Gears of War… not too bad from the trailer I watched on ign.com…. the biggest problem that movie games seem to have is that they don’t spend enough time polishing up the fine details. For example: the way you control your characters is usually hard to get used to and feels sloshy - the AI are usually pretty dumb and are too good of shots, or just too easy to kill. Just little things like that can make what looks to be a really good game into a completely bad experience, and usually has no replay value at all.

I’m not sure of myself, in fact the only thing that I know for sure is that I’m gonna to die one day, but my felling tells me that McG is a liaer Mooron, fair enough.

When I’ve watched Terminator, I fell part of it, if that happened, I should be prepared, but now, with this McG stuff, how I can even think in help.
When I say resistence, is because I fight for the Democracy, I bought the Ideal of the American Dream, if we are responsibles for destroying the world, so we have the duty to fight.
But again, now McG is making a movie that everybody is seeing (just like Michael BAy) that gonna be horrible, and you are aplauding him.
My resistence today, if you don’t mind is Don’t let then kill the Terminator Franchising, as they did with Superman, X-Men, Robocop, Aliens and Predators, Die Hard, Transformers, all those 80’s great stuff wich were left in the hands of Amateur and unprofessional directors, Paul W. S. Anderson, think about this guy, look what he made of Resident Evil and Aliens, it’s sad.
But now McG is doing it with the best franchising of all “O EXTERMINADOR DO FUTURO” that’s how we call it here on Brazil.
My resistence is that you are leting Mcg destroy a beautfull and Hope form of art created for so many talented guys as Cameron and Stan Wiston, and leting him do it for a few bucks, I can’t accept, I’m sorry, of all footages that I watched, none really pleased me totally, and it’s Terminator, should be great, But Hydro-bots? Moto-Terminators? Jesus Christ even a Transformer robot, for Christ sake, No, No, please no.
