McG Talks T5 Movie Possible Plot and It’s a Doozy

“Terminator Salvation” director McG recently did a phone interview with the guys over at FilmJournal.com, and after a long discussion about the movie, meeting with Cameron, Bale’s onset rant, and other topics related to “Salvation”, at the very end of the article McG seems to spill the details for the plot of a Terminator 5.
Here’s what he said:
As he puts the finishing touches on Terminator Salvation, McG is already looking ahead to the next chapter in what the studio hopes will be another trilogy. “I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011,” McG reveals. “John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They’ve figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he’s going to meet a scientist that’s going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves.”
I have no idea if he means that, or if he’s being a jokester, but “T5″ set in the present-day, with John Connor having time-traveled back to the past to fight an army of Skynet machines??? Wow. I don’t know how to take that. Why would you go forward in time with T4 only to jump back in time with T5? Makes no sense.
Hopefully he was just kidding and it just didn’t come through in the interview. Hopefully, because this idea for T5 is … I dunno, what do you guys think?

I don’t think McG is stupid enough that he would reveal the plot of Terminator 5 so early (its also doubtfull whether the fifth installment will be made of the franchise). So we can consider that “THIS” so called “PLOT” is gebberish.

That plot for T5 sucks hardcore. T1, T2, and even TSCC and T3 are all about pre-Jday. We get T4 which moves the mythology forward towards the rise and triumph of the resistance only go BACK to pre-Jday in T5. That seriously sucks. I really hope that is not the next movie.
Why not just continue where Salvation left off? You set up what looks to be an awesome film only to have a sequel say “Nope, none of that happened, and John’s gonna travel back in time to stop it.” Seriously, McG, don’t mess with a good thing.

In case you’re wondering where the war is in this so-called war movie, don’t worry—McG promises that moviegoers will get plenty of bang for their buck. Rather than restrict the action to green-screen-lined soundstages, many of the film’s biggest sequences were shot in the New Mexico desert and favor practical special effects—including real explosions and bullets—over CGI. “I wanted all of the action based in reality with a respect for physics and I wanted it to have a tactile reality for the audience. That’s why we did so much practically, to really convey the difficulty of a world under duress. I didn’t want clean, shiny Logan’s Run Terminators. I wanted Children of Men/Mad Max Terminators.”
Looks Like he want Resident Evil on it also, I’m sure he is a Big fan of Paul W. S. Anderson, Oh my God, the guy is a looser.

you people are too quick to judge. you think you can fill in the gaps and make sense of things with little to go on but you cant.
People I know I’m looking too pessimist about the movie, I’m really sorry, but I have to say that I’m a great fan just like you are, but I can’t see the best movie franchising die at the hands of so unprofessional guys, really stupid guys indeed, I can’t shut my mounth when I see a cleary disaster coming, i think we can’t accept it as we accept the T3 monstruosity, The Sarah Connor Chronicles I do enjoy the series, I Think is sincerilly as you can see in my other posts, the positive thing about the series is because the plots are free, the media is different of movie making, ok.
But, about the movie, I think this guy and the Writers are not following the rules Cameron had created in the 80’s and 90’s, worse he is ignoring it, calling the new beginig. I Can’t accept it, I will only support it if I find a really accepted plot respecting the memory of Stan Wiston and Cameron creations.
I am not against we watch the movie and have our own feelings about it, but if we do so, we have the responsability of ignore anything that come after, and recommend for the future generations, and tell then how the Director James CAmeron had created a great Universe in the past, and keep T1 and T2 as the classic they are, and keep passing it for the future generations, I’m sure, I’m really sure taht McG is even trying, hear what I’m telling. So movie Hype for nothing, These days I watched the Gi.Joe Trailer, is so looks like Terminator Salavtion that gave me creeps, Have mercy of us fans.

No McG, don’t do that! That’s a terrible story. Why is he using the dates from the SCC anyway? Its only that spin off show that says that the robots rise in 2011, stick with the movie dates, where the robots rise in 2003. You have to treat SCC as if Terminator 3 never happened and in the films… it did, so stick with the film mythology or it will get too complicated and confused. Someone get him a copy of T3 and make him watch it and see where he needs to keep the continuity. That sounds like a plot from SCC or something.
Unless I’m mistaken, judgmentday was delayed before. it wouldn’t be unthinkable to have it happen again. they can push it back all they want, it still has to happen.
And why is sounding like TSCC a bad thing? their not connected anyway though so dont worry abotu that.
Oh and by the way… I think he is going to for gradual technology build up thing. There are no plasma guns in the 4th film cos they havent been invented by then. T5 would probably have them along with the T-1000. I think McG might be joking and if he isn’t, the studio wont let him make a film that the fans obvoiusly hate the idea of.
Look at the ending for T4, once it was leaked what was going to happen, the fans showed their opinion on the plot and so the studio made McG respond by making a new ending for T4.
Don’t worry, I don’t think the plot he just said is going to be made. Its an episode of SCC at best.
Oh, replying to Kyle maloney, the bombs dropped at the end of T3, so judgement day couldn’t have been delayed. I like the SCC but you have to admit, it is not in the same realm as the films and can’t be counted as part of the main story. It is a sort of spin off.
I agree that its a spin off and in an alternate reality, but your making it sound as if the bar has been set low with the show which just isn’t the case. To have a story that sounds like TSCC wouldn’t be a bad thing. Even Mcg and Josh have talked and admitted there will be similarities, but its unintentional and will ultimately be different. Their not going to try and and force the stories to work in canon. (though I would love it if they could figure something out, even a small nod would be cool to me) but its fine by me if they start sounding alike.
I would wait too see how T4 turns out if I was him. It should be remebered that T4 has the same scriptwriters resposible for the awful T3, full of special effects to cover a very weak storyline. Frankly, I think McG should be given the bums rush. He is not developing the Terminator saga as it should. And there is a danger that unless Fox brings back Gale Anne Hurd and James Cameron too take over, McG will destroy the whole thing.
That’s the worst idea I have ever heard.
T4 takes place in 2018, and we know the war goes till about 2029. I want to see the progression, not that stupid plot mentioned in the article.

First off, I think you guys are being a little unimaginative.
So what if it did follow the scc plot line. So far every movie after the first has moved the date ahead. Why shouldn’t the TV show? We’re living in 2009, are we not? Did the world blow up? no. So they have to update it and make it more believable. It would stand to reason, that since the world didn’t blow up in 2003, something changed and stopped it. Wouldn’t we laugh if we watched a movie where nuclear war broke out in 1995..? Yes I know, it’s fiction and it’s an alternate universe, but face it. Once time travel is introduced, all bets are off, and rules are going to be broken. I say that seeing the machine develop a better form of time travel and bringing terminators and futuristic machines and weapons into the past would be a hell of a plot line. I’d like to see it happen. And face it, if one person likes something, a few thousand others do also at the least.
It doesn’t matter what happens in T5 anyway, because they could time travel in the end, once everything goes completely to $#it and put it all back again, and they probably will, so why worry about it? Stop wanting fiction to be tailored to fit your own personal desires. If you want that, write your own book or script and submit it to the movie companies. I’m submitting my vote here and now for that story line, or whatever else they manage to come up with. I’ll give it a chance, because I love the terminator series so far. Including Sarah Connor Chronicles, which I don’t want to see canceled.

What a crappy idea? I mean the special effects won’t be anything we haven’t seen before in Transformers. It’d just be the most terribly concieved story in the world for a “trillogy” as T4 would have had to be written to follow on to T6. I think he’s just joking around, as that is such an amazingly HUGE writers flaw, it sits against the elemental rules in making a sucessful trillogy.
That isn’t a horrible idea… and could work as a T6 ending. If T5 were to build on the story from T4 and end in an epic failure for the humans, and as a last resort, he goes back to stop them when the worlds war machines were at their peek.
It’s sad, don’t you see, T1 were so great because of the consequences of Skynet send a Terminator back in time, if doesn’t happened John Should never borned, that is the case, if the future is always changing, why send terminators back, the beautfull of the T1 plot were that the Terminator alwyas failed, don’t you see people, diferent alternatives of Time and space, is ridiculous. I’m not trying to start a fight, I’m just saying that it could be interesting. The bar has to be raised with each movie. If John and his resistance beat back the terminators, they find a way to fight back every time. In the second one, they sent a terminator a little further past the events of the first movie to try and kill John when he was still young. In the third one They find John again a bit older, but trying to go back and kill him isn’t working, so maybe in a last desperate act, they alter the time travel technology and send terminators back, fully armed and try to start judgment day early. Perhaps the only way to stop it, is for John Connor to travel back as well and fight them in our time-line. I, for one, think it would be exciting. I’m sure at the end, they could write in a little time traveling event that sets things right again. Just try and remember… It’s fiction. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it when it comes out on dvd. People take this stuff too seriously. It’s as though they think the movie is going to forever alter their perception of life and help them achieve enlightenment or something. It’s entertainment. Try and enjoy it.
Although, I will say, that I was hoping for two or three movies, wrapping up the future terminator, post judgment day stories. It would be nice to have that first. Three movies, including the new one, showing the battle of humankind against the machines, and then, near the end of the third one, a surprise ending, perhaps, a few machines go back in time, intact, with plasma weapons, setting the scene for the story he laid out above. It may be too much too soon right now, but I think they could ease people into it. And I think it would make a hell of a movie.
Joseph, you have to understand one thing. We all have our opinions about this movie and, for some of us, me included, this movie is everything. And by everything I mean everything at all. This movie brings me up when I’m down, it “told” me that even if I’m anybody now, I can be someone in the future. This is the movie of my life. And you can call me crazy if you want, but the more I see the advances of technology the more I’m convinced that the robots will try to dominate us. I don’t mind what people say about me and my ideas but please try to be more understanding about us because for Terminator fans, seeing how the movie is going to be and T5 possible plot, we think it’s awful because comparing to James Cameron plot this os nothing. I’m not saying that T4 is going to suck, actually it looks pretty good, I’m only saying that it’s going to look really different.
I can understand that a little bit. We all get inspiration from somewhere. I think the story behind terminator is an important one. Science fiction can actually teach us a great deal, if we pay attention to the often strong moral lessons. Machines probably are a danger, and artificial intelligence is as well. The idea of something as intelligent or more so than us, with no souls or morals, or even feelings whatsoever, is kind of scary. The stories of Issac Asimov preach the same stuff on a lesser scale. But the important thing to remember is that it is JUST a movie. It is JUST fiction. And I’m not making fun of you right now, I’m just trying to say that you shouldn’t take it so seriously. If the first three movies are that important to you, then keep them and in your mind the new one doesn’t have to be a part of that if you don’t like it. It’s like any series of movies. We’ll go horror, (my favorite genre) for a moment and mention the Halloween series. Many fans didn’t accept the third movie as a part of the series at all, but even though they screwed up in making that one, they moved on to make more, and now it’s being recreated by Rob Zombie. Some people don’t consider his movies a part of the series. They prefer the original ones. I, for one, liked them. It’s all a matter of preference. Kind of a take it or leave it sort of thing. There’s going to be enough support one way or another for movies like this to get made. There will be three main categories of people who see them. A. People who like it B. people who dislike it, and C. People who thought they weren’t going to like it, but were surprised. As a big time movie fan, I’ve been in all three categories. I was never able to control, however, which of those categories I fell into. You go and see it, and you either like it or don’t. But if you feel that you have to trash something before they even start filming it, I guess I can’t change your mind, and that is completely within your freedom of speech. I just want to give the movie a chance. You never know, it might be great. If it isn’t, I’ll be among the first to admit it. lol

About The Terminator, I have to say to you, Terminator for me is art (Just like Mona Lisa) is about the cold War, The Star Wars, the real one, that one by Reagan, you are a smart guy, see T2 was about the end of the War (URSS had fall) Comunism is almost dying and we will not have “Judgement Day” like we think it should be, today we have natural disasters, the Hungry increased, the unnenployement increased, the worse we all fell by American people what happened with you in World Trade Center New York, and now we are at war, we feel the consequences here, did you know that, your economy fall, we feel.
When CAmeron thought in Terminator (He inclueded all the Globe), beeing he a genious, and feeling guilty about the Cold War, he tell to all hear that he cares, (in a beauty expression of Art, I have to say). See this is the attitude that I hope in a Terminator movie.
Now comes this McG, and he is calling everyone to Join the Skynet Army(In the form of this MArcus Wright) Maybe in the point of view of Mcg is cool to be a machine, well I disagree, Terminartor is about hope, not pessimism, T3 failed because jokes with this pessimism, we accept Judgement Day, and now we are accepting Skynet is Cool just like Transformers (In the form of The Hollywood producers, who give a Damm about you, if Transformers made money, let’s follow that premisse).
Cameron done all with his heart, his vision were far from the time, I’m going to watch Avatar, give the guy a chance, but McG, he doesn’t care he is the Hollywood machine already (Marcus Wright). When I watch a movie, I do expect intelligent plot, and good acting. I expect to see good visual effects that look real, and as you said, I expect to forget about all but the movie while I’m watching it.
I love movies that make me think. On the other hand I’m not beyond watching the average Bruce Willis Die hard like flick. Sometimes we need mindless nonsense to get us through the menial crap we deal with from day to day. That’s why comedy works. I just watched Crank 2, and I loved it. There was nothing intelligent about it. it was so ridiculously outlandish that it was funny. I used to refuse to watch such stuff, but in the last few years I’ve come to the realization that it’s all entertainment. If it makes you laugh, cry, get angry, or puts you on the edge of your seat, they did something right. The key to enjoying science fiction, fantasy, horror, drama, or any other genre, is letting go of your preconceptions and just watching with an open mind. Now if something is crap, it’s crap, but I think, overall, you’ll have an easier time of movie watching or book reading, or whatever that way.
Man, you are the guy, you are bringing shine to this discussion, Great, better then the Ohhh, UAuuss and Ohh my, posted here because the visual effects, I will tell you, I agree, sometimes a trash movie, a crap movie is real good, when I think about the past, I remeber the Roger Corman’s movies, that ones wich help the Terminator exist, Piranha 2, is real bad, but is funny, we watch it, and what comes after? The Terminator, and really Terminator have fun also, I’ll never forget the sceane with those 2 kids watching TV in the future, memorable, very fun, but McG, I think the guy is not fun, I think he has no sense of humor at all, I guessing that his film will not entertain, I think it will be boring, brainless, and no plot at all.

First off, don’t take me for one of these ignorant Americans that believes everything they see on the news. I don’t know where the terrorist thing comes from. Of course, I don’t think everyone in a country are terrorist because of a few bad people. I hated George Bush for his ignorant war, and there are a lot of things I don’t like about my own country and it’s people. For you to say I don’t care, just because I’m willing to enjoy some senseless entertainment occasionally, is downright ignorant. but let me remind you a very good reason why I fear Mcg terminator, because fiction is not entertainment like you said, fiction is a protrait of the sociaty, it’s a reflexive of thoughts, and views around the world, if were only entertaiment Julio Verne or HG. Making T5 about pre-judgment day is about the worst idea I’ve heard of yet. Now, I am a huge (and I mean huge) fan of the T series. In fact, I watched each one in a theater, only to buy them, beginning with the taped version of Terminator (I’ve replaced this with the disc), but I just can’t find any interest in watching T5 in the present day with a time traveling adult Connor. Why would you try to bring it into the present day, yet again, when you could take off from the ending point of T4 and take it up to the point of T1????? I would love to watch how Skynet’s grid is crushed and see adult Reese sent back to save Sarah.
I feel like John’s girlfriend Cameron could be in Terminator 5 as a protector to John. And I think Kristanna Loken should be in Terminator 6 as Vice President and she is the twin sister of the woman they sent back into time in Terminator 3 ROTM and she sees and feels like a human but feels like she has done what her twin sister has done and she is also the Vice President and the President John Edwin Connor’s John Connors grandson. We should inslave it and let it cure us. I believe Aliens don’t want us just yet because we the people in the world are too dull and enclaved into not helping this world but destroying we need to change it. In T5, John Connor washes his hands of the whole robot thing. He retires to a houseboat in Florida, and occasionally helps the Miami police solve crimes.
Is that a plot for Miami Vice 2 where they fire Colin Ferrel and replace him with Christian Bale ?

McG, please if you want to make a T5 movie imagine what you are saying to us, the fans. it makes no sense in T5 going back in time. T4 has a good time line and it should continue like that. T3 wasn’t that bad, at leats had Arnold! but for me the best John Connor is Edward Furlong, from T2. i’m not saying that the other aren’t good. god only knows how good they are and the great job they’ve done but it was the first John Connor that i saw.
John Connor going back in time before Judgment Day would make sense. Since John in the Sarah Connor Chronicles went into a different space time continum where they didn’t know his name. Maybe this is where he gets some of his training. To know how to fight the Terminators. I know this seems overbearing on the SCC but we need to make a connection to the SCC in Terminator 5. So the show gets a real closure and help the writers of SCC to get a sense of relief that they did get closure and where they can know we the fans of SCC got closure also. I know this seems boring but I think it will make sense if you are a actual fan. And sees that John Connor needs more knowledge. To keep and mitigate SKYNET’s expansion and or uptick in it’s creation.
Why wouldn’t it make sense for John Connor to go back in time? If the resistance beats skynet (as was the plot in 1 and 2) and the machines are desperate, having no other recourse, they go back in time and try one last time to wipe out the resistance before it even forms.
Stop trying to control something you can’t control. Let the man make his movie. If it ends up sucking, say so after the fact. Quit whining about something that hasn’t happened yet, and as this article indicates, may have been a joke to begin with.
I’m not trying to control anything. I’m just saying things that could be the plot or the movie. This is one way to do the movie. Like trying to play Skip Bo and UNO and Phase 10 all in the same hand which are card games developed by Mattel. When you’re playing all those card games in one game. And you have to play it out to the end. You dealt a new game in Salvation which would be Texas No Hold’em which would be played by normal poker game cards. If you have a active imagination you would turn very good at playing a big game with one big card game. You will have to shake up and get a nice flop or have your lucky river card. Imagination is the key.

This idea must be terminated as soon as possible… But i think too it is just a joke of McG… He may more clever than to write an insane story like this plot of T5… Everybody want to see the futer battles with normal ideas…but this one is good for a 13-14year old kid… The audiences and fans want to see more …
I have visited about 25-26 forums on this week and everywhere the 88-90% of people is very dissapointed about these news! The want to see the continue of T4 and the future battles… And everybody beging! Don’t terminate the T. franchise The T3 film did it unfortunately, but we hope this trylogy will keep it!
the 4th terminator film sucked,it was nothing like the first three movies and if they continue filming in the far future they might lose all of their fans (terminator 2 was the first worldwide that year while t4 didn’t even reach the tenth spot)
I personally really liked the 4th movie. It’s sad that it didn’t get as good a rating as the previous ones. People need to give in to change. It happens. They couldn’t keep making movies with more terminators coming back and going after John Connor. It just isn’t feasible. At some point the poor bastard has to grow up, or the war has to start. Granted, the hope supplied by the first two movies was that there might be a way to postpone or stop entirely, judgment day, but the movie companies decided to go with a plot which states that it’s inevitable, so deal with it. It happens in the context of the story line, therefore we were going to eventually get movies that took place in that future world. Whining about that isn’t going to change it. Either embrace it, or move on to another movie chain… Or pretend the ones you didn’t like didn’t happen and be at peace.
