McG’s “Terminator Salvation” may have hit a major bump in the road when it comes to Stateside box office, thanks to some very poor word of mouth and less than stellar critical reviews, but it’s looking like a winner when it comes to the International box office. The film opened huge overseas, scoring $67.5 million from 8,325 screens in 70 markets. $11.6 million of that came from 900 screens in the UK, while Russia chipped in another $8 million from 786 screens. The film’s total foreign gross since it opened now comes to $101.6 million, according to Reuters.
Overall, according to Box Office Mojo, the film has earned over $205 million. While the movie still has a ways to go to land in the black, mostly because of its estimated $200 million dollar budget (not including PR and add costs), there is a very good chance the film will turn a profit thanks to DVD, cable, and other ancillary sales that will come along in the future.
What does all this mean? If the movie maintains its foreign box office and continues to chug along at the Stateside box office at a reasonable rate, it could very well end up profitable. And in Hollywood, any profit is a good enough reason to make a sequel.
This is a good sign! i don’t now the money that it made in Portugal but this is a good sign.
And this is EXACTLY what I said in an earlier comment what will happen. The movie has just been released last weekend in europe. Just wait another 4-5 weeks and this movie will have made a lot of money just like all the other ones. Mark my words!
All I want want is TSCC Season 3. If the awful T4 helps acheive that its fine by me
I agree.. though I thought the movie was pretty good, all I want is TSCC season 3.
Warner Home Video releases Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete Season Two on DVD & Blu-ray September 22, 2009. Reserve your copy today. I know I did—thank you Amazon.com.
Flex your muscles Arnold style; your money muscle, that is. Show WB and The Halcyon Company why T:TSCC is so beloved. It lives on in our hearts and in our media centers. Let us back up our loyalty and affection to this series with our wallets. You know money talks. Like they say in Spanish: “dinero hace al perro bailar.”
Guys, don’t let your DVR-recorded or downloaded episodes stop you from doing what is right. Purchase your 2nd season DVD set as it becomes available.
The resistance may be down but not out.
As for Salvation, I hope it continues enjoying success overseas.
I was thinking…If Skynet had any sense it would just send TWO terminators back in time to kill John Connor. One would to go after him and the other would just PRETEND to have been sent back to protect him (Sarah and John seem to be awful trusting as seen in TSCC), then when it gets them alone it could just rip their heads off.
Sussed.
Yes a good point. But as there are many other “Realities” it has to spread its resources. Why not send back 2 t1000’s? Cameron couldnt deal with 1 let alone two. Plus we are nstill not sure who exactly Cameron was siding with ie Humans or Machines? In the end she went over to the machines. Or did she?
LOL. True.
In you case you hadnt noticed: SCC is dead.
It’s not dead, as long as we remember it!
100% true!
PLEAAAAAASE let this movie win enough cash, since this is supposed to be the first ina trilogy, to kill it off before revealing it’s true plot would be a kick in the nuts (we already had a kick with TSCC demise…)
Here in latin america people LOVED the movie (I am in Argentina, here people even APPLAUD the movie…)
im yet to see it, im planning on going this thursday, and then once more next week, so the movie will get my cash, also since i collected the previous entries, im sure i’ll be getting the blu ray on release.
From BBC
“Terminator blasts to top of chart
The film stars Christian Bale in the movie franchise
Terminator Salvation has blasted its way to the top of the UK and Ireland box office chart, grossing nearly £7m in its first three days.
The fourth film in the futuristic franchise took £6.94m, nearly three times its nearest rival Night At The Museum 2.
The movie stars Christian Bale as John Connor, the leader of the resistance against an army of killing machines. “

I have not seen the second season of TSCC ( of which you two were referring to ) though I do remember finding out the answers to these questions In regards to T2 Judgment Day . I loved the film and hail it as the pinnacle of the terminator franchise , though not without scrutinizing every little last stretch of the narrative first.I always thought to myself , why only send one terminator back ?? why didn’t skynet just send back an army of terminators to destroy the Connors !!??? , & as I recall by the way the story line went was that skynet was incapable of sending more than one unit back through time as It was technologically restrained at the time .Though I suppose If the resistance could muster up the same technological prowess with limited resources ,skynet should of - or obviously did not make enough advancements In It’s time travel capabilities to be able to send back more units at a given time . On a different topic I have since ordered my copy of s.m stirling’ T2 future war , the final part of a successful trilogy . The whole trilogy that s.m stirling wrote has been out of print for years now so I’m beginning to believe that these re-prints have something to do with a promotional milking of the franchise whilst the latest big budget movie is out .
The next film needs a much better director, better music composer, better script, better thought, better ending, and a better story. Mcg has massacred this franchise.
I think the big profits overseas are due to the curiosity factor and the well-known franchise title. We’ll see how the foreign reviewers take to it, and if big profits continue after the opening week. That being said, I hope the movie does well…not because I loved it, but because I’d like to see a superior sequel.
i wish we had season 3 but the truth is its dead
jim u think tscc is better than T4?
u should check urself m8 think ur cpu is malfunctioning
From what I’ve seen, and the reviews I’ve read yes TSCC is better than T4. I watched T3 again last night, and although I dont rate it as highly as the first 2, it still has a lot going for it.
A whole lot of love and detail went into T:TSCC. T4 felt rushed and was too sloppy for my taste.
What good is a movie without a solid story line or character development?
Marcus Wright is all they had unfortunately, which is heartbreaking actually. He’s the only reason this movie was watchable. It never develops any of the other supporting characters. How can we otherwise sympathize with the resistance, or believe that John Connor will save mankind when Marcus seems more like the Messiah?
Now, I won’t go into the reasons why The Sarah Connor Chronicles is better than Terminator 4, as it has been explained many times in several blogs and various forums.
Now, what an awesome series finale! It literally made cry for various reasons—all positive, by the way. Such a powerful show, with vast potential, deserved another chance. Too bad the executives at WB and Halcyon didn’t agree, and so terminated TSCC in order to prevent it from interfering with T4 and T5.
Halcyon, who owns the rights to the franchise, only licensed the last 9 episodes, after much persuasion, on a condition that the show segued right into Terminator Salvation. Now, legally no one else is authorized to produce or broadcast a third season, as Halcyon will not license further episodes. This means no SyFy, which is truly unfortunate. The Chronicles will be greatly missed, however.
Clearly, it would’ve been amazing, indeed, if if my beloved Chronicles would have returned for a third year. It was obviously a business decision what happened here, fracturing in the low ratings, of course.
I will forever be in debt, however, to The Halcyon Company, WB and FOX for giving me Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Sure, The Chronicles may be dead but will live on in my heart and media center, always worthy of being part of this franchise’s history.
My devotion and affection for the show will never cease. And if I’m a nerd for saying that, then so be it…I am a nerd-o.
As far as I’m concerned, T4 never existed.
The movie sucked… its success or failure will have zero impact on SCC season 3… SCC is gone.
I will not see the next Terminator if McG or Bale are involved with it.
They need somebody like John Woo to direct T5. His “Red Cliff” shows he would have made a btter job of T4
I agree with you one hundred percent, Hex, on McG and no Bale.
I thought Bale did a good job. An actor can only work inside the script.
The movie was disappointing and not as good as the TV series.
i just saw it for the second time, iiii like T4. I find it ironic that the movies does well in south america and europe, a not in the states. funny.
I paid the money and went to T4.
It was obviously a more expensive production but it couldn’t hold a candle to the TV show in terms of interest and audience involvement.
Bring back the TV show.
I don’t know why are these reactions, ok, it isn’t a T1 or T2 but McG did a hell of a job. he worked with what he had and Bale is a good actor, also. at the beginning i did not understood why connor had so little to do in the movie until someone, i can’t recall who, explained why and it actually made some sense. this is the only place where i can “talk” with terminator fans all over the world. the thing that i didn’t like was the release data. i don’t know why it wasn’t a world premiere. i mean, in portugal we had to wait 2 weeks and there are places that have to wait one mounth or so. that doesn’t contribute (if such word exists, if not please tell me) to erase the illegal copies. i will not do that. not on terminator. i will buy all the things that are out, such as Cds. the only thing i regret is that in portugal, at least in coimbra, i haven’t found the terminator soundtrack available on stores. that’s ridiculous. and scc isn’t dead, no way, like someone said above, it will stay in our hearts and memorys and no one can erase that. at least, we had the opportunity to watch that amazing show.
Hi guyz, i don´t know if i´m allowed to put that thing in this thread but i made an alternative main theme for terminator 4, something i would like to share with you. Some of you complained against Elfman´s soundtrack. I really like the guy, but his music is just not good for terminator, so i made short version theme, inspired by Brad Fiedel
Here is the link (sorry for RS)

hey lukenzo, i’ve downloaded your T4 intro song, and hell yes, it is REALLY good!, i like it!, i enjoyed t4 ost (though i was kinda dissapointed at the lack of a “terminator theme” too…) but your take on a possible theme is really, really good!, you should publish this in more places (youtube and stuff) so the fans hear it!
Very good production there. I, too, like this track, Lukenzo. You truly captured the essence of what a Terminator theme should sound like, bro. Awesome.
yeah, the music is really good, it made me remember T1 and T2 songs! good job!
Yeah Cameron, it´s the purpose, as i said i didn´t like Elfman´s soundtrack for TS very much though he is one of my favourite songwriters. I´ll try to put one of my themes in the trailer and we will see if it´s good
I miss visiting this website; bummer but i guess theres nothing left to talk about.
tooo bad..for tscc…good talent, good series. I’ve enjoyed all the Termiantor movies and series, some better than others, each seemed to offer its’ own view of what the machine war with humans was about, and how it was to be fought. Still I hope that there will continue to be a Terminator franchise…for the future.
