Will Lawsuits and Bankruptcy Spell the End of the Terminator Franchise?

The LATimes currently has a series of articles on what they believe is the murky fate of the Terminator franchise. In short, the paper believes that thanks to a spree of lawsuits and current bankruptcy filing, The Halycon Company, which owns the rights to the franchise and who made “Terminator...

TSCC Tops E! Online’s Save One Show Poll

Every year, the E! Online folks run a poll asking their readers which show should be saved, if only one show can be saved. This year, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles won hands down with 53% of the votes, easily beating out its closest show, NBC’s (of course) Chuck. After the vote was done, Kristin at E! talked with TSCC producer Josh Freidman and here’s what they had to say.

——-*——

From E! Online:

So, what’s the latest word from Fox on the future of the show?

Josh Friedman, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles show runner and executive producer, tell us that the latest news from the network is this: “They have given me no signs in either direction. I actually haven’t spoken with Fox in weeks. They said they’re going to make all their decisions when they get the pilots in, and I don’t think they have any of their pilots in yet. Things are just starting to come in from the other shows.”

Do definitely hang in there, fans, because Josh believes there is every hope that the show will get picked up. As he tells us about Fox’s executives and programming bosses (aka the powers that be), “They’re all people, too, and they hear what goes on [with stuff like Save One Show]. I don’t think it’s a futile effort at all for people to continue to fight for the show.”

So, when will we know for sure?

Says Josh, “My experience with them in the past is they make their decision on the day that they have to make their decision and not a day before that.” And that day? That’s May 18, the day of the Fox upfront, so mark your calendars, Terminator fans! We’ll be in New York that day to get the word live at the Fox upfront, so check back at E! Online early and often for the latest updates on Terminator’s fate!

In the meantime, don’t get bogged down in the to-and-fro reports in the media about Terminator’s fate. Josh likens the experience of being a show runner with an endangered series who finds himself constantly reading reports about his own future and fate in the press, as being somewhat similiar to living life as a Brangelina, Zanessa or Robsten (who are real people, believe it or not): “I think it must be what it’s like if you were a celebrity couple. You read stuff, some of it may be true, some of it is definitely false, and you could spend time chasing down every jackass opinion and lie, but it would really take a lot of time.”

If and when season three does get a green light, Fox already has a sense of what they’re getting.

Josh says, “I haven’t pitched a season three yet, but near the end of season two I had a conversation with the network about season three just because they needed to understand the radical change in direction we had gone in the finale. So they’ve know for a while some of my ideas for season three.”

Other Venues? And what if season three doesn’t happen? Could it go to another network?

Says Josh, “It’s not an expensive show, it’s very average in terms of its costs, but it’s more expensive than all cable shows. There are limited places for a show like this, I think.”

What about a comic?

Josh says, “Everyone wants to plan for success and hope that it works out that way, and then if it doesn’t, we’ll see what happens.”

Either way, there will be no spilling of secrets about Terminator’s third season…yet.

“I think that the finale speaks for itself. I think it’s very clear what season three is from watching the finale,” says Josh. (He’s kidding. I think.)

Still, it’s going to be radio-silence on storylines from Team Terminator for the foreseeable future.

Says Josh, “I just sent an email out to all the other writers, and I said that, probably, in the weeks ahead, many people will ask you either online or in interviews to talk about season three or ‘Can you explain certain things from the season two finale?’ I asked all the writers to just cordially not. I kind of feel like if we have a season three, people will see it, and if we don’t have a season three, I like people using their own imagination to see where it goes. And if we don’t have it, for me to kind of put my foot down—this is what this is and this is what that is—shuts down everyone else’s imagination. I think in a situation like this it’s nice to let people kind of create their own fanfiction going forward.”

this is a good sign! we are winning every petition. fox gotta hear us. T:SCC will be back!

I hope it comes off. But as Josh admitted, it only got too the main theme in the last 2 episodes! It has too have continuity. Fox wanted it to be episodic or semiepisodic. But the writers were allowed a free hand! And we saw where that took us! If there is a season 3 they HAVE TOO GET IT RIGHT!!!!! Be Like season 1!!!

I think Season 2 was a learning/testing experience in which the show (whether Josh wanted to or not) tried a few different things to see what would work.

And by the end of Season 2 it is clear that the Terminator stories are best told by a continuing high-pased story with plot themes that do not drag and/or end nowhere.

If there is a season 3 it will be done right this time.

awww man i hope it comes back, it would b soooooooo awsome. just the whole new direction it can take, it would b quite interesting. not to mention the answers it would produce for everyone who’s been watching season 2. its good to see so many people behind the show pushing for a 3rd season. it might make fox take notice of how many people want the show to continue. fox did wound the show by moveing it to its fridaynight slot, and there was probably other factors contribution as well… but u shouldent wound what you cant kill coz it will come back with a vengeance. n if season 3 does get the green light. it will come out with all guns blazing.

I hope it gets a season 3, Ive been signing petitions and commenting on how I love this show.

umm.. i miss this show..

This is the only show I like on Fox .
With Terminator 4 movie coming up on May 21 there well be a need for a 3 season of
Sarah Connor Chronicles .

if they dont bring it back theyre crazy

I put my signature on so many petitions to bring the show back for another season.
The character development, the high level of storytelling (comparisons to the Terminator movies), the options that are open as to where to go with the story are endless. Fox, give all of us fans out there hope and a green light that TSCC is going in for a third season (and change the airing to another evening; e.g. tue, wed, thu). We are with incredibly large numbers out there!!!!!!!

It is interesting to see a positive line coming from Josh Friedman . The petitions have kept the focus on people talking about the show which is all good .
Here in the UK Virgin 1 has only just shown the season 2 Finale The viewing figures have kept steady but, as it lost a repeat showing on Saturday night probably, still to low for them to pick up a 3rd series . It really needs a main stream channel to pick it up to increase it’s exposure .
The T4 film coming out after, rather than before the Fox decision day may prove to be a bad thing as I think this may turn attention away from the show to see what the public reaction is to the rebooting of the franchaise.

I’m in the uk and watch the show every week, i hope it gets a third season.

Save this show!!! It’s awesome and ratings will climb once the movie comes out as well.

FOX is hearing us people. Lets not ease up on them one bit.

Keep assigment list for continuing the series.

Hope this show gets picked up for a 3rd Season! The final episode of Season 2, proved to everyone that the show was just getting started and the story has so much more to offer.

Long Live TSCC!

so is it just me, or is may 18th, 2009, judgement day?

You are right…

I WANT THE THIRD SEASON!!! THE TSCC IS THE BEST SERIES THAT I EVER SEEM!!

Best show on tv now that bsg is done. Fox would be completely brain dead to cancel.
More and more people are jumping on board this ship. Friends of mine only started watching and they are hooked. I ‘ve been hooked from day 1.
When I first heard they were making this show I thought they are going to mess it up just like T3, but after the pilot blew me away and I can’t wait for more episodes.
I am suffering with drawl since the season 2 finale aired. I need a fix …
If any 1 from Fox is reading these pages Don’t air this show on Friday nights that’s party night, Sunday night, Mon,Tue,Wed,Thurs that’s when it should be aired. And leave the show alone let the writers do what they do. You executives will just mess it up, stay behind your desk and write checks, that’s what you do.

Toronto Canada…

If you pick up season 3 where you left off it would be great. Derek said he saw it in Johns eyes that he was Kyle’s son what will he think of this kid he does not know now. The possibilities are limit less and no Friday nights please

I’ had found this to be an interesting show but when I viewed the “Last Voyage of the Jimmy Carter” that cinched it for me: this is a classic show with all the potential to be rated alongside great S-F classics like Babylon 5 and the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica.

One more thing: the machines, Cameron, et al are even more interesting than the human characters.

One more one more thng: the casting of Shirley Mansion as the ambiguous machine, Catherine Weaver, is spot on brilliant.

please fox do not terminate this amazing show! this is the best show of the last years!please hear the fans worldwide because if we are winning every petition there must be some reason.

if you love Summer Glau, please join us at http://welovesummer.net . you’ll need only a photo/avatar and a few seconds. thank you.
