Will The Sarah Connor Chronicles Return … as a Direct-to-DVD Movie?

If you’re wondering why there hasn’t been a whole lot of posts here for a while, well, the answer is pretty simple: there just hasn’t been all that much to post about. That changed today, when Lanie Grace wrote on her blog that she’s gotten confirmation from multiple sources that The Powers That Be at Warner Bros. plans to bring back The Sarah Connor Chronicles and continue where they left off in the Season 2 finale. Except it won’t be as another season of the show, but rather a direct-to-DVD movie scheduled for 2010 or 2011.
She writes:
I learned that at a minimum there are plans to pickup where TSCC left off and go straight to DVD as a T5 warm up although a relaunched TSCC Series is not out of the works depending on wide variety of things. The goal would be for the series and T5 to form a merge point in a future timeline. The plan is to possibly start production in late 2010 or early 2011. Most of the cast will already be on board due to contract clauses from the orifinal series from what I understood.
Despite the critical pounding that “Terminator Salvation” took, and less than spectacular box office, it’s possible that The Halycon Company is invested enough in the “Terminator” movie franchise that they’ll make a sequel anyway, although to be honest that will probably depend on DVD sales for the film. Overall, “Terminator Salvation” has not been a runaway hit, and once you factor in production and advertising cost, it’s a minor success at best, but it’s hard to justify another major movie sequel (with the mega budget of one) from that. Lanie Grace apparently has information to the contrary, and whose to say she’s wrong.
She also mentions that besides the direct-to-DVD continuation of TSCC, the show’s producer and showrunner Josh Friedman will not have anything to do with the movie. I find that a bit perplexing, and would the castmembers really return without Friedman?
Grace claims the cast are obligated to return “due to contract clauses”. Um, no, not really. You can’t make an actor drop everything and come back to shoot a movie if he or she doesn’t want to, especially after the show has been canceled. I doubt there is a clause that says, “Even if we cancel your show, you are still obligated to be at our beck and call forever!” That sounds more like slavery than a work contract.
But hey, I don’t have any inside information to contradict what she says, so she could be 100% correct for all we know. And truth be told, I’m hoping she’s right, because let’s face it, the show’s fate left a lot of bad tastes in people’s mouths, and a direct-to-DVD continuation of Season 2 would be pretty damn cool.
I’m just not holding my breath, that’s all.
This is great news, this is the small hope I’ve been looking for ever since I thought the season 2 finale might actually be it.
I would definitely buy every single one of these DVD’s should this eventuate into something.
Yeah, Shane3x, you’re absolutely right. We may not have everything that we want but at least we have the possibility of having TSCC back and that’s all we wanted.
This is really awsome! At least some good news after all this time!
Does anyone know if Terminator Salvation DVD has bloopers, deleted scenes and making off?
Keep on fighting!
It will have a lot of extra content which also includes the various deleted scenes from the film. I believe there was a post about it on this site. If not you can easily google it to see what the DVD/Blu Ray will offer.
Hopefully everyone who has been involved with campaigns to bringing the show back (in one form or another) from emailing or anything else should keep up the good work.
Best bit of news I’ve read for a very long time… TSCC FTW… I can’t wait! Words can’t describe it.
As for Josh Friedman, he has to be a part of this to some extent..: he did write the original script for the show and was also responsible for writing s2 episode1 Samson and Delilah which was epic, among much more
sounds a bit dodgy with contracts as well but f the original cast is in*scream like little girl* awesome!
Best news I’ve heard all summer. But I’m not holding my breath. Hollywood is fickle. They may do it or they may not.
The contract clause sounds a bit iffy. I doubt there is anything to make the actors return. They would have to renegotiate new contracts which each actor. However, it wouldn’t be the same without them if the DVD movie is made. Same thing goes for Josh Friedman. He was the creative genius behind the show. Any follow up to the TV series must have him involved too.
As far as tying a TSCC DVD movie into a possible T5 movie? Please don’t, not if T4 is anything to go by. Give it back to James Cameron while you still can, please.
I have to call bs until someone else, anyone really even hints this to be true. Lanie Grace spouts all sorts of lies and is not to be trusted. She likes to jerk us fans around.
Even if it is true, I don’t think this is the news any of us fans have been wanting. I didn’t hate Salvation, but its still clearly worse than TSCC, and I would not want them to try and combine the two time lines. The show worked the way it did because it was able to do its own thing. and why wouldn’t Josh Friedman have any invovement in it? I don’t trust the the series to anyone else at this point. I know he had his flaws, but they were mainly just some bad pacing during the infamous Sarah and the 3 dots episodes.
If this was true, Josh was back in some capacity, I could see me excited for it. but as it is I feel like its just going to get ruined in the wrong hands.
By all means , bring back TSCC !!
I don’t care if it is sold as a direct to DVD movie, or mini series , fans need some closure to all the loose ends left in the season 2 finale . If the suits in WB do find a network to sell the 3rd season to , then I say wonderful , let it happen .
Fans need to keep the pressure on !!
Hmm it should be pointed out that Zach Stentz one of the former writers for TSCC was in a chat on SaveTscc and basically eluded to the same thing.
Not as detailed, but definitly in the same tone.
There is hope
Agreed with Kyle… And I forgot to state my complete and utter distate at a link to the next movie blehhhhhhhh!
I’d certainly pay top dollarto see another season over a movie.
as for the 3dots episode it was a tie in to Arnold think predator :p jks
the 1920’s episode was a tie in for arnie, basically it would have been him that got assasinated by memory.
lanie grace is a person to do that?
dammit- well I’m unaware of her credibility, that’s to bad but it’s still a piece of news that’s made my month if not the ( fingers crossed) next year or two before it’s release :p
Awesome news! I can’t wait to own my copy of the 2nd season of The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Blu-ray, not to mention the Direct-to-DVD Movie. Everyone reading this, please purchase your DVD sets of Season 1 & 2. Support the show, boys and girls. Make their decision of bringing us the straight-to-dvd movie easier.
This news is welcomed but, as the series was only canceled a few weeks ago, I have to wonder if this news is a bit early for being definate & with the Series 2 DVD launch almost upon us, it could just be publicity to improve the sales.
Lets wait for the network suits to comment !
great news!
made my day that has. i think the original cast and crew should be back on this though..
not letting JF back is a bit of a stupid idea…
leave it to die
Hm. I hope you’re right.
Mind you, the Season 2 finale really twisted the story in knots. Where do you go from there, if you’ve only got a couple of hours in which to tie things up?
man i hope it can be brought back. a tye-in with the movie collection doesn’t make sense to me however. there is absolutely no mention of derek reese in the movie series, to my knowledge he just don’t exist in it. Am i wrong? if so someone please correct me.
I hope they give us some kind of closure. That is all I want. Something like a TV movie or direct to DVD that wraps up the lose ends and provides us with some semblance of an ending.
I agree. Keep the pressue on. I want a full season or a miniseries not just one DVD movie.
I want a third season. I want 3 or 4 seasons. But right now, right now at this point in time, a direct-to-dvd movie sounds good. What would be nice would be 3 or 4 direct-to-dvd movies.
But like I said earlier, I’m not holding my breath. I’ve learned since this article was posted that Lanie Grace has a less than spectacular reputation amongst TSCC fans. Don’t know why, and frankly I don’t care. But like any news reputed to come from some “unnamed source,” I won’t believe it until someone from inside actually comes forward to back it up. Until that person does, this story could be nothing but hyperbole written up solely for Lanie Grace to get more people visiting her website.
So unless that unnamed source publicly states that TSCC is returning as a direct-to-dvd movie, or some other format, this story is nothing but smoke, and its being blown up our @ss.
Fox thru in the towel and didn’t want to compete with Lost in ratings for a sci-fi series. We the viewers get screwed again and I hope I don’t just speak for myself but it will be hard to get interested in any new series ’s anymore.
Lanie Grace is a liar and her so-called “inside information” should not be trusted. Her blog appeared *after* Zack Stenz made an announcement regarding the benefit of successful Season 2 DVD sales. He made no promises that the show would return in any format.
Lanie Grace has, on many occasions in the past, spun lies to attract fan outrage (specifically regarding the cancellation) solely to get hits to her website. She is a self-publising attention wh*re, and that’s all there is to it.
While I do hope that in this one (extremely rare) occasion she is telling the truth, I wouldn’t let myself be led on by her deceptions a second time.
You now have Thomas Dekker saying the same thing and it is posted on i09 where Josh Friedman is aguest blogger. I doubt it would be published.
Like it or not Terminator Wiki, I broke another story that you did not see coming about TSCC.
~Lanie~
Well, i hope Lanie is right - even a direct-to-DVD would be fine, at least to get a proper closure of the story.
Though i’m sure not being alone with the opinion to get a 3rd season - if even not 20+ episodes just around 10-15 - would be even much-much better.
And yes, i don’t think there could be any kind of clause for the actors that obliges them to go, but hope they would do it. Lena Heades made Sarah Connor even better than Linda Hamilton (although she was good in T1-T2 even), Thomas Dekker i thought is the best John Connor i’ve ever seen, and i guess Cameron is so much written for Summer Glau like T-800 ‘uncle Bob’ is for Arnold. (Yes, she is the cutest - and hottest - Terminator ever.)
I really do nto believe anythig that Lanie Grace has to say. But with T4 Salvation being a disaster for WB, you can see how they will try and recoup some of its cost by making a TSCC DVD.
A TSCC DVD as ? Well it didnt work for T4. In fact a lot of people who never saw TSCC came over to the series after seeing T4. So if WB use that dolt McG and those screen writers, it will follow T4 into the bin, where they both belong.
Sounds good, but is not reachable to all the Fans, who stills hold the hope of the TSCC return. surely the producers wanna get some more money if the people buys the DVD. if they can do that, why they can’t try again with a more consistent storyline, like an independent timeline (remember, is the “Sarah Connor Chronicles” no the Terminator intermedia) talking about Sarah and how she know about skynet
We need a whole season 3 to get a decent end on this super awesome serie which is way better then Terminator movies 3 & 4. Can’t believe they canceled it with so many Terminator fans out there……………………
With the current lawsuit in place involving Halcyon, I wonder if WB canceled the series so they wouldn’t be drawn any further into the mess. They may have seen the handwriting on the wall long before Halcyon’s problems became public and WB decided to get out while they could. Just a theory. I’m not claiming anything, but it’s an idea to ponder.
Clever. i didn’t know about that, but if so it could really be the case! But that won’t make the grudge disappear : the cancellation will always be bitter at the back of my throat…
It has been reported on SaveTheSCC website,
that their trusted source is also reporting the
same news.
http://www.savethescc.com/news/2009/08/step-in-the-right-direction/
They also state that the recent legal issues with
Halcyon has put a hold on such plans.
Everyone should write to WB stating their
support and interest in a Direct-to-DVD movie.
But mention your preference for a full season!
if anybody at the wb is reading this, or at halcyon. They should definity do the direct dvd movie and forget that terminater 4 ever happened and get josh Freedman to write and direct this, and base the rest of the terminater movies of series. Because it isthe only way to bring respect back to the francise in my oppinion.
Ps I’m already in the process of getting my copy of season two.

Yeah - of course let’s just forget the T4 (and maybe also T3) movies, just pick up the TSCC storyline.
If they see option only as DVD movie, than let’s do that, but of course, as any other fans i’d prefer a whole 3rd season!
(Even if that would be a shorter than season 2.)
One of the best shows to come along in years… to bad the powers to be at fox and wb.. cant get there act together and figure out people like to watch tv and become loyal fans of shows they like too.. but hey if cbs can give drew carrey the price is right then fox can take our show away too and not lose any sleep

More news on the possibility of a direct-to-DVD movie.

Middleton: “The quick answer is, yes, there have been many discussions. I can’t go into more detail about the subject until I have something truly substantial to report. What the fans should know is that I hear them and I too would love to see T:SCC come back in some form.”
I hope he is right and there is a reason really to hope.
We’ll see…
I am praying for the straight to dvd movie too but like everyone else praying really hard for a 3rd season.
I really hope that they make a straight-to-dvd for TSCC. although a great many of us are praying for a third season. lets say the dvd is produced, maybe if it sells like crazy they’ll bring TSCC back on the air? i hope so. and i’m betting that a lot of us do too. i mean, just look at the many websites that are created (ex. http://www.savethescc.com, http://www.johnandcameron.com, etc.) and dedicated to showing that we want the show back on the air. just give us our damn show back!! its the right thing to do!
No one could have said this better!
I’m with Paul. Bring back TSCC! It is the right thing to do!
I agree that Cameron was the coolest and hottest Terminator ever. She sure had the walk down. I too was greatly disappointed that the show was canceled. It was the ONLY show that I made it a point to catch every week. I loved it.. just loved it. To cancel it like they did, left a bad taste.. maybe that’s why I don’t even turn the channel to FOX anymore. You can’t make me watch, what I don’t wanna watch.
I don’t know if this will hurt or help our cause for a third season or a direct-to-DVD movie, but Halcyon is auctioning off Terminator.

Yeah, I really liked the SC Chronicles even though I thought it was dumb at first. Terminator 1 & 2 are two of my favorite movies of all time. James Cameron should have done 3 & 4
